Antibiotics

Tetracyclines, beta-lactams (penicillin, cephalosporins) and sulphonamides belong to the most commonly used drugs in veterinary medicine. They account for two thirds of the sold medicinal products followed by the macrolides (Erythromycin) and aminoglycosides.

Maximum residue limits for antibiotics in food and feed are defined in EU regulation 37/2010. Unauthorised substances like Chloramphenicole and nitrofurans are listed there, too.

Antibiotic residues in milk have a direct economic importance. The quality of milk can be tested with an inhibitor test before further processing. Positive results reduce subsidies (ā€œMilchgeldā€). A couple of interferences are described for the inhibitor test influencing the result. For these cases confirmation is carried out with reference methods based on LC-MS-MS. We have confirmatory methods ready for you to reliably quantify or rule out residues of antibiotics in all raw materials of animal origin.
