As a sustainable company, GALAB cares about the environment, which is why we are doing something to protect our unique ecosystem. GALAB is constantly setting itself new sustainability goals. A good year ago, a new photovoltaic system was put into operation on the roof of the external warehouse. We are proud that since then we have been able to produce some of the electricity we use ourselves using solar energy. The fact that solar energy is not only the ideal source of energy for GALAB is demonstrated by the fact that it is free, clean, safe and available in unlimited quantities.
By now, almost 30 MWh have been produced since the installation, saving over ten tons of CO2 emissions, which corresponds to more than 300 planted trees.
GALAB contributes to the fact that photovoltaics as a whole is gaining more and more importance in Germany. The share of the regenerative energy source, the sun, has been increasing continuously since 2003. In 2020, nine percent of the electricity generated was produced in this way.
In the first quarter of 2020, renewable energies, which also include wind energy, geothermal energy and hydropower, for the first time covered more than half (52 percent) of the electricity demand in Germany.
An important step on the way to reducing the greenhouse effect and countering the threat of climate change, which would primarily affect future generations.
At GALAB, we also show that we take this topic very seriously by using our ice storage system, which saves up to 60 percent Co2 compared to conventional units when heating or cooling our company headquarters. We also operate an internal charging station for our growing e-car park.
