Hazardous chemicals used during production are repeatedly detected in garments like textiles and shoes. Residues and metabolites of the applied substances are discovered in the environment and may accumulate in the food chain. As an example, there are nonylphenolethoxylates, which are used as surfactants. In the environment, they are degraded to hormonally active nonylphenols, which on top, are toxic for various fish.
In Europe, the ECHA candidate list according to REACH regulates handling of substances of very high concern (SVHC), which are carcinogenic, mutagenic or persistent and bioaccumulative. This list enables companies to identify hazardous chemicals containing endocrine active substances and to exchange them with harmless alternatives. Greenpeace studies show, that in Asia, however, hazardous chemicals are still used in the textile industry.
GALAB supports you as a competent partner for the chemical product safety of your articles. We offer a broad range of analytical parameters to rule out any undesired substances in textiles or shoes or their raw materials. Our sales team is happy to provide information and advice.
